Cute Hairstyles for Long, Black Hair

Keep Color Bold

  • The signatures of both long and black hair are the straight-up beauty factors---long hair shows off a larger amount of whatever color it is sporting, and black hair is famous for being bold and shiny. If you dye your hair black, make sure to keep on top of touch-ups to ensure that your long tresses are consistently dark from root to tip. If your black hair is natural, try an herbal rinse every month or so to freshen and brighten your color. When choosing a dye, make sure to pick one that has a base color of blue, not red. Blacks with a red base can end up fading to a very dark brown, and the blacks made with blue come out clean, shiny and the blackest of black. Either way, it is more worth it to shell out the few extra dollars for a higher quality dye---cheaper dyes often finish matte and can give off a grayish sheen in the sun.

Soft and Shiny

  • Just as important as the bold color is the texture of your long hair. Long hair should be smooth, soft, and touchable as opposed to rough with split and broken ends. Make sure to get a trim every 6-to-8 weeks, as virtually no noticeable length will be removed, and it will ensure that your hair stays healthy and strong. Deep condition once a week, as it will make your long hair super soft and completely maximize the intensity of the black color. When washing your long hair, use your fingertips to gently massage your scalp to increase blood flow and cause your hair to grow a bit stronger and faster. Use lots of conditioner on the body and tip of your hair only, avoiding excessive amounts near the roots. Another way to keep your long hair healthy is to switch to a brush that contains boar bristles. The bristles are the best way to evenly distribute the natural oils and keep the hair untangled to avoid broken ends.
